New continuing education courses starting Winter Semester 2026/27
From the upcoming winter semester, Karlshochschule is offering new continuing education programmes for professionals who are already working and want to keep learning.
Our formats
Each course runs over several weeks — combining self-study units, online sessions and an in-person workshop for a good balance of flexibility and shared learning. Participants who wish to do so can sit a final exam to receive a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS), each worth 5 ECTS.
Those who complete the full programme can earn a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) worth 15 ECTS. For those seeking further qualifications, future integration into Master programmes is planned.
The academic year 2025/26 focuses on two areas: Artificial Intelligence and Arts & Cultural Management.
DAS/CAS Programme: Understanding, Shaping & Governing Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is fundamentally transforming business, society and the way we work. To actively shape this change, professionals and leaders need solid knowledge of AI technologies, strategic implementation skills and a strong sense of responsibility.
Starting October 2025, a new practice-oriented certificate programme launches across three coordinated modules covering the opportunities, challenges and regulatory landscape of AI.
Module 1: Understanding AI — Technologies, Tools & Trends (6–8 November 2025)
This introductory module provides a foundational overview of key AI technologies with a particular focus on Generative AI. Participants learn to interact effectively with AI systems through prompt engineering and explore dialogical approaches to working with AI. The module also reflects on philosophical attitudes toward AI and covers current technological trends alongside accessible introductions to core learning models including machine learning and neural networks.
Module 2: Shaping AI — Strategies, Structures & Processes (January/February 2026)
The second module focuses on the strategic implementation of AI within organisations, particularly in HR and across different business functions. Topics include data-driven decision-making, business intelligence for strategic planning, and practical applications of AI in marketing, sales and operations. AI-supported business analysis for digital transformation is also covered, illustrated through real-world examples that highlight both opportunities and risks.
Module 3: Governing AI — Ethics, Competencies & Legal Certainty (23–25 April 2026, with Prof. Dr. Sasanka Potluri)
This module addresses the ethical, legal and societal dimensions of AI. Key topics include algorithmic bias, transparency, explainability and accountability. Participants engage with current legal frameworks — including the EU AI Act — and develop competencies for responsible AI governance within their organisations.
The in-person phase is followed by an online phase. Every Tuesday for seven weeks, participants receive either a self-study task or join a live online session with one of our lecturers.
This part-time programme is open to professionals across all sectors. The participation fee is €550 per module. An optional exam leads to a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) worth 5 ECTS. Participants who complete all three modules and pass the exams receive a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) worth 15 ECTS in total. The additional exam fee is €350 per module.
Module 1 is taught by Professor Dr. Sasanka Potluri and Eric Neuheiser, both of whom bring academic expertise and practical experience in artificial intelligence. Module coordination is led by Professor Dr. Dirk Wagner, specialist in organisation, strategy and artificial intelligence.

Certificate Programme: Challenges in Cultural Management
At a time of tight public budgets and declining cultural funding, cultural management is under pressure to develop new strategies and build sustainable structures. Today’s sector needs leaders with business acumen, creative competence and a feel for social change.
Starting October 2025, a new practice-oriented certificate programme launches for cultural practitioners, cultural educators and anyone looking to deepen and expand their expertise in cultural management. The programme consists of three sequential modules and offers rigorous training at the intersection of art, organisation and innovation.
Module 1: Cultural Management (30–31 October 2025)
The first module introduces participants to cultural management. It covers current challenges in the creative industries alongside key topics including marketing, communications and audience engagement. Additional content includes event planning and delivery, legal foundations in the cultural sector, and an introduction to controlling and financial management.
Module 2: Cultural Leadership (January/February 2026)
This module focuses on leadership in the cultural sector. It addresses leadership and people management within the specific challenges of the field — including hierarchies, precarity and burnout. Participants learn to manage stakeholder and change processes, understand strategy development as a multi-phase process, and apply tools such as SWOT analysis, stakeholder mapping and mission statement development. Project management, change processes and evaluation round out the module.
Module 3: Cultural Entrepreneurship (9–11 April 2026, with Prof. Peter Spuhler and Frank Zumbruch)
The third module centres on entrepreneurial thinking. Participants reflect on existing business models, develop new ideas, and explore strategic controlling, network building and innovative and sustainable funding strategies.
The in-person phase is followed by an online phase. Every Monday for seven weeks, participants receive either a self-study task or join a live online session with one of our lecturers.
This part-time programme is open to professionals from culture, education and related fields. The participation fee is €550 per module. An optional exam per module leads to a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) worth 5 ECTS. Participants who pass all three exams receive a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) worth 15 ECTS in total. The optional exam fee is €350 per module.
Programme lead across all modules is Professor Dr. Dr. Björn Bohnenkamp. Module 1 is taught by Stefan Jäger, Anca Unertl and Björn Bohnenkamp, who bring extensive experience in both the theory and practice of cultural management.
